It’s all about the terrace!

This garden design by Fern & Pine was something special as it needed to complement the incredible new extension by Flower Michelin Architects. The garden design was a mix of great social spaces, a productive garden for growing fruit and veg and a space that would encourage wildlife into the garden.

A wrap around terrace was created with reclaimed terracotta tiles. This posed a monumental challenge as each tile varied in thickness and size and was hand laid in a herringbone pattern - we think you’ll agree it was worth every second spent on it!

The side terrace was to be used for outdoor dining so a custom built concrete outdoor kitchen by This is Conplex was added to this area.

The terrace steps down to a large lawn area where we created large planting beds with a raised corten steel water feature nestled into the planting. At the back of the garden we built a wildlife pond with a floating deck where the last of the evening sun can be enjoyed.

Finally, we installed a gravel kitchen garden with raised beds where fruit and veg can be grown and installed a [make] greenhouse.

‘Naturalistic’ was the theme for the soft landscaping as it is very important to our clients that their garden supports the local wildlife.
